Re_Public (Version 14)

Re_Public/Art intends to foster the field of participatory public art and its actors by means of specifically targeted measures as well as to extend the structures of public art by means of exemplary art projects, theory and cultural politics.

Project is perceived in collaboration between the art institutions and cultural producers based in 6 european countries. Following are the projects taking place in UK during the time period August 2002 – July 2004:

symbolic versus real

in the discussion of the political effects of arts the symbolic and the real are generally understood as opposed to each other. this workshop wants to question the perceived distinctions between symbolic and real while scrutinizing concrete practice of participatory public art about its real and symbolic 'weight' and intended ambition.

interference: public sound

project on the increasing and too little explored significance of sound in the context of public art

strategies of visibility

what does visibility mean? and is visibility always desirable? political theory, sociology and urban studies will be brought in conjunction with discussion of artistic practices to examine different strategies of visibility in artistic, social and political contexts.
